The art of group photos is essential when reporting news. You will often find a story demands an image of a group rather than an individual. It may be a charity event, demonstration or family shot but the story will only work if you feature a group of people.

Traditionally, local newspapers have seen the value of featuring larger groups in photos as it means more people will buy the paper and it increases the sense of community.

Here is my powerpoint looking at the different poses and issues relevant to taking group shots. I’ve chosen images of people at BHASVIC college as a way to illustrate this exercise.

To pass this module, you will need to present an image of a news scene, head and shoulders shot and a group image.
