Top interviewing tips for new journalists

  1.  Always introduce yourself and tell them who you are writing for and what you want to interview them about.
  2.  Always record the conversation.
  3.  Listen with concentration.
  4.  Be polite.
  5.  Prepare in advance.
  6.  Have a conversation.
  7.  Smile and look them in the eye.
  8.  Don’t ask the killer question first.
  9.  Get the basics – who, what, why, when, where and how.
  10.  Check the spelling of their name.
  11.  Ask a mix of open-ended and closed questions.
  12.  Ask the stupid question if you have to!
